About the program

Taking the first step takes courage. We’re glad you’re here.

What it is

Journey to Wholeness is a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP): structured group support that fits around your life. You meet online three evenings a week for 12 weeks and learn practical skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), one of the most widely researched approaches for managing intense emotions and building healthier relationships.

Every session is facilitated by a licensed therapist.

Who it’s for

This program may be a good fit if:

  • You’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or not like yourself
  • Old hurts still shape how you feel and react
  • You’re working to break the cycle of addiction or other patterns
  • You want steadier emotions and healthier relationships
  • You’re ready to learn practical tools and grow alongside others

Before you start, we’ll talk with you to make sure the program is the right fit for where you are right now.

Grounded in research

Why DBT skills?

Impulsivity, acting on urges especially when emotions run high, is a core part of addiction. A 2023 study tested a 3-month DBT skills training program with adults with alcohol and other substance use disorders.

83%of participants completed the full program

What the researchers found:

  • Emotion-driven impulsivity, acting rashly when upset, decreased during the program.
  • By the end, impulsivity was lower than in untreated patients and no longer significantly different from people without a substance use disorder.
  • Gains in distress tolerance, mindfulness and emotion regulation explained the improvement.

This was a small study (29 participants) of a stand-alone DBT skills program; results from one study don’t guarantee individual outcomes. Journey to Wholeness is a DBT-informed program, and individual results vary.
